Principle Investigator


Dr. Demet Özer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Bilkent University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology in 2021 from Koç University in Istanbul-Türkiye, following her B.A. (2013) and M.A. (2016) degrees in Psychology at the same university. She investigates human language from a multimodal and interactional perspective. Dr. Özer’s main research interests focus on how people coordinate different communicative signals (e.g., speech, iconic gestures, social eye-gaze) across different contexts during language production and comprehension, the cognitive and neural mechanisms behind this, as well as the interaction between different cognitive processes and multimodal language.
